This page is my genealogy research of our roots, the BUCKALEW and ARCHER families in New Egypt.
In our research of these two families we found them to be the major Basketmakers for this part of New Jersey. Within Plumsted Township more than sixty basketmakers are listed in various vital statistics between 1850 and 1990. Baskets were made in New Egypt, Colliers Mill, Archertown, Archer's Corner and Hornerstown from at least the early 1800's.
My research of these ancestors began about one year ago when my mother gave me pictures of my grandparents, great-grandparents and g-g-grandfather for Christmas. My curiosity of my ancestors from that point started my interest in genealogy. My husband's family, the Buckalew's are still living on the same property as their ancestors first settled , in the Colliers Mill area of New Egypt . My Archer ancestors to our surprise were from the Archertown area of New Egypt which we did not know until I started looking back into our family tree. Both families being of the same area, we have to our amazement, not found any other Buckalew/Archer marriages .
This page and my continued research is dedicated to the person who started my interest in genealogy, my mother, Margaret Elizabeth Smith Archer born December 15, 1933 and left us January 31, 2000.
